As it is International Women’s Day we thought it only right we celebrate the brilliant, entrepreneurial women running successful independent businesses in Southport. There are some inspirational shops, cafes and studios created by the passion and dedication of local women with great concepts, style and ideas. Here is our guide to just some of the wonderful women helping make Southport special!
Women are working hard to make sure Southport women feel fantastic in the latest fashion and style. Offering personal service and exclusive high end fashion, shops such as Momo on Union Street, run by Molly, and Jenny’s Muse on Lord Street are stunning. Wendy, who opened Hot Frox on Eastbank Street last October offers spectacular prom and occasion wear and exclusive fitting sessions in luxuury surroundings.
The kids are alright
Southport’s younger generation are just as glamorous as their yummy mummies thanks to boutiques such as Chloe’s Baby Love on Wesley Street. A definite destination for fashion conscious little ones is Union Street, with Over the Moon Kids' Tina offering expert knowledge on all the latest brands and styles in kids fashion with a huge collection of exclusive ranges. Or if you would like your little lady in something a little different, cross over the road to Betsy Boo for Sasha’s gorgeous handmade dresses and more.
Sisterhood is a common theme, with sisters Catherine and Sarah running the very popular Tapper’s Café on Union Street and serving up the most innovative and spectacular cakes we have ever seen! Sophie & Anna set up their own dress makers after finishing fashion college and create bespoke dresses from their Hoghton Street premises. Face Value Cosmetics in Cambridge Arcade is run by a mother and daughter team always on hand to offer advice. Maria of Hiron's jewellers on Wesley Street continues the family jewellers tradition in style.
Revolutionising eating out in Southport
Southport has seen a surge in new and exciting restaurants, cafes and bars over the last couple of years and creatively minded women have been leading the charge. Sarah and Susannah opened Remedy to great acclaim and a stop for a gin has become a must on any evening out. Janine runs The Fig Bistro on Eastbank Street and cooks all the divine middle eastern food herself from scratch. Head to Lord Street for an exquisite afternoon tea at Lilibets of Paris, opened by owner Lilibet after changing careers and following her passion for baking at a Parisian cooking school.
The list goes on!
Cheryl runs the gorgeous Tienne jewellery on Chapel Street stocking Pandora and other elegant, modern brands. The talented Diana runs her gorgeous photography business from Wesley Street alongside neighbours such as Margo at Bartons Gift Co and the new addition to the street Katy at The Creative Studio - both stocking amazing arrays of gifts for all.
There is just no space here to list every gorgeous, female lead business in this town of ours, a town packed with innovative business owners, but we salute all those making sure Southport stays independent and full of character!
We would love you to tag in any great women running great businesses here on our pages @southportindies #southportindies and help celebrate everyone of them!
