Daddy Dearest - Our guide to THAT illusive gift for a difficult to buy for Dad

It’s Father’s Day this Sunday (yes that’s right – did you forget?).  If you are scratching around on Amazon looking for whatever looks half decent and is on next day delivery – STOP. Cease. Desist. Have a word with yourself, read this blog and venture into one of the amazing shops here in Southport bursting with great things that will earn you far more brownie points then that personalised mug you just nearly clicked on in desperation…..

For the style king...

Reputation, Man to Man and Lapel all stock huge ranges of brands and designer clothes and shoes for all styles to keep him looking as slick as and handsome as ever (or to subtly influence a style upgrade if he falls somewhat short in that department). New Hugo Boss t-shirt for the summer?  Time to change that same tie he has been wearing for 10 years?  All three stores have you covered.

Make a clean shave of it….

Is the man in your life sporting the full hipster beard?  Does Grandad sport a proud head of hair? Pampering isn’t just for women these days. Treat him to a clean shave or a beard trim or just a good hair cut and treatment in one of Southport’s great barbers.  The acclaimed Master Barbers on Lord Street is a great place for a treat and Maestro barbers on Market Street also offers full packages to help him feel like George Clooney.

Appeal to his inner rock star…

Dig out an original vinyl of that band he loved to relieve his wild days or that rare copy of his all time favourite LP at Quicksilver music.  Alternatively, a guitar playing Dad would be in heaven at the appropriately named Dad’s guitars in Wayfarers.  If he doesn’t actually play and his skills lie in air guitar only there are plenty of t-shirts or vintage items to help him pretend he is replacing Noel on the Oasis reunion tour.

For the well read man...

Find old editions of classics or the latest spy blockbuster at the amazing Broadhurst’s book shop. With 1,000’s of classic books over 4 floors you will find that one perfect book he will love (and loose hours after browsing its utterly fascinating rooms).  If you haven’t ventured into Parkinson’s books recently, you are missing an amazing experience.  Take a leap of faith and wander down the alley to a labyrinth of books, vinyls, collectables and more

Artists, collectors & model makers…

Talking about collectables, any man with a hobby is well catered for within Southport Independents.  Hobby Scene is an Aladdin’s cave of models, air fix, comic books and more.  Around the corner, Market Street Antiques has 100’s of brilliant finds, as does the exceptional Make It Workshop in Cambridge Arcade.  You will find something great for a puzzle lover at Mind Games on Hill Street too.  If they love to let their creative side out, Pilio Art on Market Street has it all and is well worth a visit in its own right, it’s a wonderful hidden gem.

Sport fanatics….

New kit bag?  Some stylish new golf gloves ahead of the Open? Arcade sports is a sports shop as it should be and with an owner of over 20 years’ experience, you will receive plenty of guidance and a steer in the right direction if you have no idea what you are looking for!  For wannabee Chris Hoy’s – the new addition to Wesley Street, Spinwell Cycleworks have some great cycle packages and as with all our indies, will offer you personal service to help you get just what the man of the moment needs!
