Our guide to the best outdoor drinking spots in Southport

The sun’s out and so are we

Is there anything better then lunch al fresco or a cool drink on a summers eve? We can’t think of too many things that come higher. With this heatwave making us all desperate for refreshments and donning our best summer dresses we thought it timely to talk about the best sun soaked social spots in Southport. Any we have missed?Comment and share the sunshine.

The Lakeside Inn

The former owner of the record of Britain’s smallest Pub, The Lakeside is a tiny oasis of character on the marine lake.  The views from the tiered terrace are unlike any other.  Who needs the continent when we can sit out with a good drink and enjoy sunsets over the lake.  This is what this country does best!

Veronica’s

One of the newest kids on the block, Veronica's has raised the game.  In the old Bar 88 building, they have a superb, large terrace, heaters, great DJs and even better cocktails.  There isn’t too much more you can ask for, is there?  With the sparkling trees of Lord Street as a backdrop, the atmosphere is always good.  Enjoy their amazing lunch menu by day and events on their terrace by night.

The Office Bar & Restaurant

The Office Restaurant & Bar has been established for a number of years and has now built up a solid reputation as being one of the top venues in Southport. Featuring a totally modern yet sophisticated décor indoors & outdoors in their seating area, this is a great place for nights out or just a casual drink after work.

Mimi & Lotti's Coffee House

This lovely new café on Hoghton Street has a great little setting and a great summer menu.  There is lovely, light lunch dishes and good cakes all to be washed down with an ices tea.

Rueters Bar & Grill

If you haven’t been to Rueters in a long while then you are missing out. New owners gave it an extensive refurb last year and it is looking good.  The new interior is warm, cosy and done to a high spec but we are here to talk al fresce and they don’t disappoint there wither.  Choose from a seat out front people watching or their pretty courtyard and enjoy a great meal or cold drink after work.

Remedy

Remedy have a new home and there’s now even more room for gin!  This Spring they jumped across Town Hall Gardens to their new home and they have a new extended menu served into the night.  It is the absolute perfect place for some bustle and people watching in the heart of town.  We absolutely don’t endorse drinking gin during lunch time……

Auberge & Neighbours

Auberge on Seabank Road is a long term staple on the Southport dining scene and its pretty flower framed terrace is a lovely lunch spot.  Pair it with its sister bars Sacrebleu and Le Grog and you can carry on enjoying the sun with a drink and sample some rum and ciders.

The Cheshire Lines

Another superb British pubs, the Cheshire Lines is one of our favourite spots.  Opened over 200 years ago and the oldest pub in Southport, Cheshire Lines serves up superb food and has a great new summer menu.  This year they opened their ‘secret garden’ and it is the perfect hideaway from the outside world.  Note the doggy beer barrel – no misses out on the fun at The Cheshire Lines.  Don’t tell your friends – we want to keep it our secret for a bit longer.

Kings Gardens Tea Room

A vintage Tea Room with a modern twist, Kings Gardens is Family run business specializing in Afternoon Teas, breakfasts and lunch.  Set in a pretty building on the edge of the gardens and marine lake there is plenty of fun summer, touristy buzz around and the perfect stop after a walk by the lake or play on the park.

Mini’s Wine Bar

Set on Eastbank Street, Mini’s boasts another (!) secret garden.  Tucked behind the café, it is a great hideaway from it all for lunch in the sun. The café is completely dog friendly and there is always a warm welcome.

Lord Street and the Northern Quarter

A summers afternoon spent wandering from café to bar along Lord Street will never disappoint.  The raft of outdoor seating combined with the wide boulevard all feels very European on a sunny day. Highlights include Cocoa House with its on street tables or hidden garden and the always popular Peaky Blinders.

There is plenty in the ‘Northern Quarter’ to choose from including Lords café bar and Volare or the very pretty new Copper & Ivy – which serves up great vegetarian options.

We also love the Bold.  Big comfy chairs, big blue skies, great atmosphere and THAT horse statue.  It’s the terrace on this list with a touch of luxury.  Early evenings with their med platters are heavenly.  Oh and if you are there for lunch may we recommend the fish finger sandwiches….best.thing.ever.
